The FMT Lab is an open research hub that develops analytically rigorous research with clear practical implications for markets, industries, and public policy. The Lab actively engages with external partners to translate research insights into tools, evidence, and frameworks that support decision-making in real economic environments.
FMT collaborates with the Observatory of Foreign Firms in Italy (Osservatorio Imprese Estere in Italia), an initiative by Confindustria, the general confederation of Italian industry. The objective is to study the retention and attraction of foreign direct investment in Italy. Other scientific partners include LUISS University, Istituto Nazionale di Statistica (ISTAT), and LIUC Cattaneo University.
FMT collaborates with WiiW - Vienna International Economic Studies, one of the principal centres for research on Central, East, and Southeast Europe, with 50 years of experience. Over the years, we have broadened our collaboration to include international economics, European integration, the Economics of innovation in the countries of Wider Europe, and selected issues of the global economy.
FMT Lab research is designed to inform:
policy design and evaluation, by providing evidence on the effects of industrial, trade, labor, and competition policies;
firm strategies and market outcomes, by analyzing innovation, productivity, competition, and regulatory environments;
institutional and regulatory choices, by assessing the interaction between market structures, technological change, and public intervention.
The FMT Lab is open to collaboration with:
Academic institutions and research centers, for joint research projects, comparative studies, co-authored publications, and researcher mobility.
Public authorities and policymakers, at the regional, national, European, and international levels, interested in evidence-based policy design, impact assessment, and regulatory analysis.
International organizations, working on industrial development, trade, competition, innovation, and economic resilience.
Private firms and industry associations, seeking data-driven analysis of market dynamics, innovation strategies, regulatory impacts, and competitive positioning.
Cultural and creative sector organizations, focusing on the economic sustainability, digital transformation, and governance of cultural heritage and creative industries.
Technology and cybersecurity stakeholders, interested in the economic implications of digitalization, data protection, infrastructure resilience, and risk management.
The Lab aims to build long-term partnerships that combine scientific excellence with tangible economic and societal impact. It supports the development of competitive, resilient, and sustainable markets and welcomes new collaborations for joint research projects, commissioned studies, policy advisory activities, and externally funded initiatives.
